Thomas first big road trip went to Nelson, just over the border in Victoria, about 35 km from Mount Gambier in South East SA. The first day we drove to Mount Gambier and had a stay over in a very nice cottage. Thomas did very well for his first long car drive, yes you have to entertain him during the trip a little bit, but he slept for quite a bit as well. And we made stops on the way, so he had a little play, while we had a cup of coffee.
On day 2 we had a little D-tour before going to Nelson in Victoria. Our first stop was a little walk around Valley Lake (next to the famous Blue Lake in Mt Gambier). After that we went towards Port Macdonnell with a stop to climb a volcano. No not a working one, Mt Schank is a extinct Volcano, but you can walk to the rim and even go into the crater, but we didn't go further than the rim, where you can enjoy the views. The path was not for strollers, so we took Thomas on the shoulders which he really enjoys. After the vulcano walk further down to the nice views over the ocean at Port Macdonnell. Some rocks are named after animals, like the camel rock on the photo.
In Nelson we had a nice cottage a well, close to the Glenelg River. A very nice and peacefull place. At night the kangeroos were jumping aound the cottage. From here we went a day towards Portland and Bridgewater, just to see the Lighthouse at Cape Nelson and had a walk near the coast to see the petrified forrest. The second day there we travelled a little bit next to the river, walked close to Oxbow lake, this is the last bit before the river flows into the ocean. Some off road driving take you to some some picknic spots further up on the river. At one picnic place we found a very nosy kangeroo, Thomas was also very excited to see this roo, he was even quick enough to grap his tale for a moment. The last day was the ride back home to Adelaide. And again Thomas was great in the car. And he loved eating a cooky with cream in the middle, well actually, he liked to lick of the cream in the middle and make a big mess of it all. hahaha We enjoyed the few days away from home, Thomas too. So now we're planning the next trip for our holiday at the end of July, we keep you posted were this will take us.....
