On July 26th we flew off to the Gold Coast airport in Queensland for a well deserved holiday. It was a little challenge to entertain Thomas for two hours on the flights back and forth, but he did very well. Especially because there was not much room in the plain to run around in and he had to sit with us on 2 chairs. But reading the magazines, looking ouside, playing with the light switches and some food kept him busy for the time of the flight.
For the first part of the holiday we stayed in Mermaid beach, very close to Surfers Paradise, the apartment we stayed in was quit big, enough space to entertain us and Thomas, he really liked the balcony, calling out to the pwople below, and playing with the screen door. He kept on opening and closing this one all the time…very funny according to him.....
We enjoyed the beautiful beaches, Thomas liked the beach the first time he got on to it, chasing the seagulls, but once splashed by the cold water, he was not that fond of it any more, and liked to be close to us. It got better again later in the holiday once he got more used to it by walking on the beaches.
We visited the Wildlife Currumbin Sanctuary, an animal park with a great bird show and all kind of Australian native animals. A great place to spend some time.
After that we visited Springbrook, away from the coast, a national park and is home to the "natural brigde".
The next day we explored the Gold Coast coast line, visited the beaches, drove to "the Split" to have a nice view on Surfers Paradise and even saw some whales a hunderd meters from the coast playing in the Ocean. It's Whale season there from June - November. In the afternoon we explorered the shopping mall Habour town, which is a bit bigger than the one in Adelaide.
A self drive tour through the hinterland of the Gold Coast was our next trip. A beautiful mountain drive takes you to very nice places with great views. We had a coffee break at Tamborine Mountain, visited some waterfalls, try to get the birds not to steel our bread in Laminton National Park.
The second part of our holiday we booked in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, an hour and half north of Brisbane. On the way there we drove through the Glass House Mountains, again a very beautiful drive with great views. We had a little walk for a nice lunch spot near one of the mountains. In Noosa we had again a great apartment with on the complex several nice pools. We had some trips to the different beaches on the coast line, drove to Rainbow Beach a little bit more north of Noosa, but most of all, we had a very relaxed time.
The last day before going home again, we drove and stayed the night in Brisbane. Thomas loved the big chair in our room. It was just the right hight to climb into.....
